He was predeceased by: his parents, Lionel Townsend and Elizabeth Townsend (Davis). He is survived by: his sons, Geoffrey E. Townsend (Lee Ann) and Mathew S. Townsend (Carin); his grandchildren, Anna Townsend, Jaxson Townsend, Owen Townsend, Mathew Townsend, Jr. and Molly Townsend; and his siblings, Scott (Teresa Romiti) and Valorie Haddad (late Richard). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
