He was predeceased by : his parents, Robert J. Cunningham and Nellie Cunningham (Eller); his son Marvin A. Jr.; his grandson Benjamin C. Shumpert; and his siblings, Ezra, Dallas Cunningham and Ariel Bates.

He is survived by : his wife Rosalie; his children, Robert J. Cunningham of Lexington, SC and Florence "Lori" Shumpert (Kevin) of Lexington, SC; his grandchildren, Jeremy Shumpert and Samantha Stevens; his uncle Doc (Love); and his aunt Rosalie.
