He was predeceased by : his parents, Thomas E. Smathers and Violet Smathers (Bentley). He is survived by : his wife Patricia L. Rathman-Smathers (Brubaker); and his stepson Charles R. Rathman. He is also survived by grandchildren and great grandchildren; ten sisters; and five brothers.
