He was predeceased by: his parents, Warren Smith and Naomi Smith (Turner); his son Ed Smith; and his grandsons, E. Shawn Helsel and Christopher A. Helsel.
He is survived by: his spouse Gail; his son Lee Smith of New Paris; his siblings, Warren Ray (Doris), Mary Kay (Joseph Dibert) of Bedford, Connie Kirschbaum of Delmont and Lois (Wes Bowser); and his great grandchildren, Gage and Lizabeth.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Bedford County Humane Society and the Shriners Hospital in Erie.
