He was predeceased by: his parents, Lester Patey and Edna Patey (Jones); his wife Patricia Patey; and his brother Robert Patey. He is survived by: his children, Teresa Weaver (James) of Fairplay, MD, Walter Patey, Jr. of Falling Waters, WV, Larry Patey (Robin) of Keedysville, MD, Mark Patey (Kelly) of Hagerstown, MD, Timothy Patey of Hagerstown, MD and Karen Weller (Kevin) of Fayetteville, PA; and his brother David Patey (Barb) of Salisbury, MD. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren.
