He was predeceased by: his parents, George Kanish and Anna Kanish (Larko); his siblings, Mary Mylarnski, Kathy Grafton, Anna Kanish, Paul, Mike, Louis, Steve, George, Joseph and John; and his parents-in-law, George and Verda Reesman.

He is survived by: his children, Sherry Tomaro (Jack) and Robert Kanish (Angela) of Jackson, TN; his grandchildren, Krista Gabel (Kenneth) of Saylorsburg, PA and Dereck Tomaro (Tessa) of Tampa, FL; and his great grandchildren, Theodore and Desmond Gabel of Saylorsburg, PA.. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
