He was predeceased by: his parents, Donald Lee and Donna Lorraine Jones (Irwin); his brother Duane Jones; his mother-in-law Emily Shorts; and his brother-in-law Tom Shorts.

He is survived by: his wife Sonya Jane Shorts; his sons, Dale R. Jones (Amy) of Franklin and Jason Jones (Heather) of Utica; his grandchildren, Dawson Jones (Ellie) of Emlenton, Lindsey Burchfield of Utica, Conner Jones of Franklin and Drew Jones of Utica; his siblings, Dan Jones (Cookie) of Anderson, Carol Jones of Franklin, Debby Irwin (Alvin, Jr.) of Franklin and Donnie Jones (Annette) of Franklin; and his siblings-in-law, Monica Forehand (Garey) of Arizona, Larry Shorts (Nikki) of Arizona, Ernie Shorts (Kim) of Cooperstown and Ed Shorts (Lori) of Conneaut Lake.
