Charlotte C. Opie Obituary
Charlotte C. OPIE, 82, of Gaines, PA, died Sunday, June 22, 2025 in UPMC Cole, Coudersport.
Born July 20, 1942, in Annapolis, MD, she was the daughter of Lawrence E. and Charlotte C. "Chris" Whitaker Parks. As a child she was known as Peaches, and as Mie Mie and China in adulthood. Growing up in Maryland, she grew up crabbing on the Maryland shore and led an adventurous life which included streetcar racing. In her younger years, she also enjoyed boating, water-skiing and snow skiing. In later years, she loved bingo and going to the casino. She was employed in the hospitality industry for many years in southeastern Pennsylvania. She owned and operated Parrot Place in Quakertown for several years and worked as a correctional officer at Montgomery County Correctional Facility. Charlotte loved all animals, domestic and wild. Her dog, Baby Girl, and cat, Binx survive her. Moving to Surfside Beach, SC in 2010, she worked as a home health aide prior to her retirement. Charlotte moved to Gaines in 2019 to reside with her daughter and son-in-law. She spoke with her two best friends, Kathy and Pam, on the phone every day.
Survivors include: a daughter, Sonia L. (Michael) Holbert; granddaughters, Hailey C. Mitchell and Cheyenne Cantler; great-granddaughter, Piper; a sister, Janice Harman; nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by a grandson, Tyler J. Mitchell, on April 22, 2021; and a sister, Brenda Amos.
Per her wishes, no services will be held. Memorials may be made to Second Chance Animal Sanctuary, 725 Gee Road, Tioga, PA 16946.
