He was predeceased by : his parents, Louise Hanlon, and John P. Hanlon, Sr.; his former life partner Anne "Nancy"; his wife Carolyn Sue; his grandson Harrison Troy; and his brother Jim.

He is survived by : his children, Maryanne Higbee (Greg), Carol Scogna (Bob), Jack Hanlon (Julie), Bob Hanlon (Sharon), Patricia Troy, Katherine Reid (Jim), Anne Marie Hanlon (Art), Daniel Hanlon (Karin) and Christopher Hanlon (Suzanne); his grandchildren, Tom (Abby), Charles (Yen), Will (Connie), James Scogna, Shelby Troy, Danielle, Laura Higbee, Haley, Amelia, Caelen Reid, Isabelle, Dever, Ella and Dorian Hanlon; his great grandchildren, Savannah, Genevieve and Nico Scogna; and his sisters, Katherine Stover and Mary Louise McLaughlin. He is also survived by many friends, nieces, and nephews.
