He was predeceased by: his father Nicholas; his wife Sharyn Lee Caplea; and his sister Laurie Kolberg. He is survived by: his children, Sean McKelley (Carrie) of Powell, OH, Don Caplea (Penny) of Fairview, PA, Stacey Shank (Dan) of Parker, CO, Nicholas Caplea of Erie, PA and Michael Caplea (Lynn) of Erie, PA; and his siblings, Gay Scherrer, Joseph Caplea (Ann), Christine Pfister (David), Jeanne Caplea-Variola and Jim Caplea (Joanne). He is also survived by 16 loving grandchildren; his 2 great-grandchildren.
