He was loved and cherished by many people including : his parents, John and Grace Hewitt Dougherty; his wife Evelyn Kendro Dougherty; his children, Lisa Mackenzie (Sean), Terence Dougherty (Monica) and John Dougherty (Ellie); his grandchildren, Jackie, Katie, Matthew, Anna, Emily, Maggie, Patrick, Michael, Andrew, Corinne, Daniel, Brendan, Maren and Terence; and his siblings, Robert Dougherty (Ann), Frances Coughlin and Elizabeth Cook (George).
