She was predeceased by: her parents, Marvin Perry and Marjorie Anne Rockwell; and her sibling Skip Rockwell. She is survived by: her children, Caryn Mercadante (Paul) and Scot Hoffmann (Kara); her grandchildren, Avery, Sydney, Mia and Ava; and her close friend Jim Brokenbek.

“Joyce was one of my first birding friends. During the 1980's, when my brother and I were young and without a car, we'd tag along on North Hills birding trips with her. Joyce had a habit of taking new birders "under her wing". She was so enthusiastic, and top of the birding scene, long before eBird - Who saw what and where. I had lost touch with her the last 30 years. Thinking of her now reminds me of the joy of sharing a birding experience with other birders. My sympathy to her family. Eric”
