He was predeceased by: his parents, Raymond J. Wineland and Isabelle I. Smeltzer Wineland; his son Roger W. Wineland; and his siblings, John, Marshal, Carl, Ruth and Delores.
He is survived by: his wife Ednamae Steiner Wineland; his children, Ronald E. Wineland, Linda M Sedlak (Henry) and Glenn A. Wineland (Tricia); and his sisters, Darlene Weyandt and Patricia Pfeil. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; also, a number of nieces and nephews.
