He was predeceased by: his parents, Ralph F. Akers and Mamie Marie Akers (Smith); and his siblings, Hazel Barker, Kay Craig, Phyllis Akers, Mildred Lester, Elsie Perkins, Linda Mullins, Freda Purdue and Robert Akers.
He is survived by: his wife Carolyn K. Akers (Byrge); his children, Tammy (John Toppins), Angela C. (Wesley Joseph), Jerry E. Akers, Jr. (Karen) and Jason W. Akers; his grandchildren, Christopher, Bryan, Christina, Kevin, Katie and Tabatha; his great grandchildren, Aaliyah, Leya and Calli; and his siblings, Sister Maxine (Lewis Adkins) and Tommy Akers (Danielle Coleman).
