John will be remembered for the time spent with loved ones and the moments that brought joy to those around him. Friends and family will honor John by reflecting on shared memories and the positive influence he had in their lives. Though John is no longer present, the bonds he created and the experiences shared will endure. John’s memory will continue to be a source of comfort for all who knew him.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Elmer Schaertel and Eleanor Schaertel (Boesch); and his wife Shirley A. Schaertel (Davis). He is survived by: his children, Eleanore McLaughlin (Brett) of Douglasville, Georgia, Diane Kakareka of Lenexa, Kansas, Rita Capp (Kyle) of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania and Brian Schaertel (Toni) of Harrisburg.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made in Reverend Schaertel's memory to either Our Saviour Lutheran Church or the Wounded Warrior Project, honoring the two callings that were closest to his heart.
