He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph R. Shields and Joyce Shields (Rosencranse); his siblings, Ray (Maggie), Margaret (Walter Hamlyn), Kathy Mohrmann and Anna Gregorski; and his brother-in-law Chick Gregorski.
He is survived by: his children, Eric (Danielle), Randy (Chelsea) and Keli (Jack Peters); his grandchildren, Ayden, Jase, Cody, Lexi, Noah, Arya, Carter and Ember; his sisters, Fran Smith, Pat Gregorski and Vera Shields; and his brothers-in-law, Doug Mohrmann, Al Gregorski and Chuck Smith. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
