He was predeceased by : his parents, Jack Gilbert and Anna Mae Salak; his siblings, Suzanna Theobald and Robert Gilbert; and his siblings-in-law, Jodi Gilbert and John Korb.

He is survived by : his wife Cherie Appel Gilbert; his son Matthew (Ellen); his grandchildren, Liam, Jacob and Elsie Mae; his siblings, Dianna (Joe Fenwick), Bernadette (Chester O'Connell), Lourdes (Donald Rousseau), James Gilbert (Donna) and Paul Gilbert; and his aunt Katherine Schuman. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

In lieu of flowers the family is accepting donations to the Cherry Ridge Fishing Club. Donations can be sent to the Honesdale National Bank.
