He is survived by: his wife Mary Catherine Monica Williams; his sister Phyllis Williams Hines; and his children, Richard Gates, Carl Malcolm Jr., Sherry Victoria, Scott Gates and David Bruce. He is also survived by sister-in-law, daughter-in-laws, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
