He was predeceased by: his parents, Clair V. Cowden and Elizabeth "Bettye" Boyle Cowden; his wife Wilma Steele Cowden; his daughter Bernice Hunt Frazier; his grandson Tyler Campbell; and his sister Carol Caldwell.
He is survived by: his children, Debra Montgomery (Philo) of Wheeling, WV, Kimberly Freno (late Dave) of Cecil, Todd R. Cowden, Christy Campbell (Wayne) of Millersport, OH and Thomas W. Cowden (Michelle) of Avella; his grandchildren, Krista Lechok (Jesse), Marisa Ruiz (Yohandry), Justin Freno (Leigh), Kristin Freno, Jonna Drost (Dustin), Ryan Campbell (Shayna), Alex Campbell, Thomas Cowden (Brittany) and Seth Cowden; his great grandchildren, Giavanna, Owen, Dean, Ethan, Jolie, Elias, Tripp, Noah and Bowen; his siblings, Van Cowden (Bonnie), Jere Cowden (Sharon) of Sewickley and Anita Cowden of Montgomery, AL; his close friend Harry Prevost; and his caregiver Connie Rush. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
