He was predeceased by : his parents, Joseph William and Olive Martha Schaffer (Hammaker). He is survived by : his brothers, Donald and Dennis Schaffer; his wife Marjorie K. Schaffer (Bitterman); and his children, Mark Joseph Schaffer (Dawn) of Palmyra, Debra Linn Hefflefinger (Alan) of Mt. Joy and Nicole Lee Ogden (Steve) of Hummelstown. He is also survived by seven grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian burial was held on Tuesday, May 7th 2024 at 12:30 PM at the St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church (359 W Areba Ave, Hershey, PA 17033). A burial was held on Tuesday, May 7th 2024 at the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery (60 Indiantown Gap Rd, Annville, PA 17003).
