He was predeceased by: his parents, Jonathan Kennell and Nettie Kennell (Kirchner); his wife Anna Kennell (Kiser); his daughter Dolly; his grandchildren, Kenny and Teresa; and his brother Earl Kennel.

He is survived by: his children, John Jr. Kennell (Laura), Alice Murray (Kenneth), Judy Troutman (Michael), Bonnie Beals, Charles Kennell and Lisa Kennell; and his brothers, William and Clyde Kennell (Colleen). He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
