He was predeceased by : his parents, Clifford Merrifield and Effie Merrifield (Hilton); his wife Doris J. Brown; his daughter Willodean Merrifield; his stepson Steven Shadick; and his brothers, Clifford Merrifield and Dick Merrifield.

He is survived by : his son Mark Merrifield of Germany; and his brothers, Terry Merrifield of Lewisburg and Danny Merrifield of California. He is also survived by several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

His family suggest contributions be made to the Lycoming Animal Protection Society, 630 Wildwood Blvd, Williamsport, PA 17701.
