He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank J. Thiel and Edith Thiel (McManus); his wife Lillian Thiel (Drummer); and his son Bernard. He is survived by: his children, Sharon, Linda, Margie, Kenneth and Charles. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tunnels to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10306.
