He was predeceased by: his parents, Peter Shaffern and Alice Whitecavage Shaffern; and his sisters, Jean Hazeltine and Rose Mary Roberts. He is survived by: his wife Marilyn Brown Shaffern; his children, Jannene Pelchar, Justin Shaffern, Brandin Shaffern (Jacque) and Amanda Shaffern; and his siblings, Peter Shaffern (Paula), David Shaffern and Maryann Wanyo. He is also survived by six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions may be made to Allied Services Meade Street Hospice, 200 S. Meade St., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702, in appreciation of the compassionate care provided to Joseph and his family.
