He was predeceased by: his wife Cynthia Handel (Thomas); his parents, Edna Handel (Striggle) and Claude F. Handel; and his siblings, Eugene F. Handel and Frances Kiehl.

He is survived by: his siblings-in-law, Susan Anderson (Roy) of Harrison City, PA and Thomas Thomas (Nancy) of Bear, DE; his sibling's children, Tara Robinson (Rion), Troy Anderson of Pittsburgh, Steven Thomas (Hayley), Jessica Klingler (John), Julie Bost (Dan) and Sharon Handel; and his pet Kristi.
