He was predeceased by: his father William Shirk of Maine. He is survived by: his mother Lorrie Garman; his stepmother Wanda Shirk; his sisters, Evelyn Fouts and Esther Leicy; his half-siblings, Shawn Shirk and Dawn Shirk Keser; his son Michael Shirk (Stephanie Shirk); and also Erin Smucker (Burnie Smucker). He is also survived by his three grandchildren.
