He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard J. Thiers, Sr. (Dick) and Nancy Curtis Thiers; and his sister Adrienne Thiers. He is survived by: his daughters, Christine Shaffer (Travis), Mireille and Rebekah Thiers; his grandchildren, Benjamin, Sophie and Taylor; and his siblings, Christopher Thiers and Jeanne Hunsberger.
