He was predeceased by: his father Clarence Smail Jr. (Bud); his brother Mark Smail; and his pet Hazel. He is survived by: his wife Loni; his children, Jeffrey (Amanda) and Ally Trueax (Christian); his grandchildren, Islabella and Carter; his mother Ellen Smail; his sister Kathryn Johnson (Ronald); and his sister-in-law Kelly Smail. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
