He was predeceased by: his parents, John "Jack" Smail and Gladys Smail (Barnes). He is survived by: his significant other Deborah Kemerer of Latrobe; and his siblings, Richard Smail (Cecelia) and Sandy Felice of Greensburg. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
