He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry R. Shaffer and Lydia Mae Shaffer (Kuhns); his wife D. Elaine Shaffer (Hoyle); his son John Jeffrey Shaffer; his grandson Jesse W. Funk; and his siblings, John, Henry "Herk" Shaffer, Martha Pugner, Dolores Gray, Sally Hudock and Elaine Shaffer.
He is survived by: his children, William L. Shaffer Jr. (Kathy) of Punta Gorda, FL, Todd Hunter Shaffer of Maryville, TN, Kim McIntyre (Tom) of Latrobe and Phyllis Barlock (Mike) of Loyalhanna; his brother Joseph Shaffer of Delmont; and his grandchildren, Jenny, Billy (Ashley), Amanda (Andrew), Adam (Hunter), Crystal (Nick), Jared (Katie), Cameron, Tuck (Deah), Chad (Aimee), Jodi (Clayton) and Sean. He is also survived by 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
