He was predeceased by: his parents, Ernest Newell and Phyllis Hood Newell; his former wife Edith Thomas Newell; and his brothers, William "Billy", Richard P., Frank and John Newell.
He is survived by: his wife Newells Valley; his daughters, Barbara Armstrong (Mike) of Bel Air, MD, Beverly Grace of Knoxville, TN, Betty Jo Cairns (Rick) of Ligonier and Bernice Pelava (Don) of Mesa, AZ; his brother Robert Newell of Pittsburgh; and his grandsons, Ben Grace, Brady Grace, Alex Cairns (Abi), Chad Cairns (Candace), Clark Cairns (Annie) and Christopher Armstrong. He is also survived by seven great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
