James leaves behind cherished memories for friends, family, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. James’s life was marked by connections and experiences that touched those around him. Though he is no longer with us, the moments shared, the laughter, and the support he offered will continue to resonate. All who knew James will carry forward his memory in their hearts.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Carlton "Jessie" Karnes and Helen V. Karnes (Bowers); and his wife Sharon Ann Karnes (Harvey). He is survived by: his daughters, Cynthia Lowell (Dennis) of Montgomery, Diane Ogden (Mike Hook) of South Williamsport and Debra Winterer (Martin) of Front Royal, VA; and his brothers, Terry Karnes of Williamsport and David Karnes of Johnstown. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 4 step-children.
Visitation was held on Thursday, September 24th 2026 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the Crouse Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc. (133 E 3rd St, Williamsport, PA 17701). A funeral service was held on Thursday, September 24th 2026 at 1:00 PM at the Crouse Funeral Home (133 E 3rd St, Williamsport, PA 17701). The military honors was held on Thursday, September 24th 2026 at 1:45 PM at the Military Honors Green Lawn Memorial Park (62 PA-54, Montgomery, PA 17752).
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial contributions be made in Jim's name to the Susquehanna Health Foundation, for the benefit of the Hillman Cancer Center, 1001 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701.
