He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert McGowan and Evelyn McGowan (Girard); his brothers, Marty McGowan, Jerry McGowan, Robert McGowan and Kevin McGowan; and his stepmother Maxine Check McGowan.
He is survived by: his spouse Leslie A. Guthrie; his sons, Michael T. McGowan (Jessica) of Meadville, Jonathan N. McGowan (Sara) of Meadville and Jeffrey R. McGowan of Meadville; his grandchildren, Valerie McGowan, Brayden McGowan, Jase McGowan, Mackenzie McGowan, Mason McGowan and Zoey McGowan; and his siblings, Mary Ann Hartman of Centerville, Kim Templin of Meadville and Daniel McGowan (Bev) of Meadville. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
