He was predeceased by : his parents, Rose Marie and Thomas Leo Gessler, Jr.; and his son Francis Matthew Gessler. He is survived by : his wife Frances; his children, Candace "Pie" Phillips (Vincent), Lesley Knowles, Crista Gessler (Chev Lane), Thomas Gessler, Jr. (Jill), Joshua Gessler (Tiffany) and Eighteen; and his sisters, Sharon Miles (George) and Philomena Holm (Nils). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In his memory, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Fight Like Frank Foundation.
