He was predeceased by: his son Richard Raymond; his parents, Herbert James Sr. and Madelyn (Grice); and his brothers, Herbert Jr. and Lynwood "Butch".

He is survived by: his wife Phyllis Jean Zewe; his daughters, Suzan Van Til (John) and Sally Dahma (Michael); his granddaughters, Sarah, Rebekah and Elizabeth; his son Mark (late Tonya); his grandchildren, Jacquelyn Miller (Laeken), Stone and Brian (Katherine); his son Brad (Patty); his grandchild Cory; his son Paul (Michelle); his grandson Luke; his great grandchild Natalie; his children, Lois Lyle (Jake) and Russell (Candy); his grandchildren, Samuel (Allison), Nickolas (Isabelle) and Paisley; and his brother Ron (Violet) of White Oak. He is also survived by seven children, eleven grandchildren and one great grandson.
