He was predeceased by: his wife Patricia A. Burleson (Kabbatt); his parents, William Clyde and Bertha Jane Burleson (Goode); and his siblings, Joe Burleson, Warren Burleson, Betty Kirkpatrick and Frances Kraft.

He is survived by: his children, Sharon (Brian Fischer), Diann Schilk and John J. (Meredith Conway Burleson); his grandsons, Kyle Fischer and Jack Burleson; and his sister Cordilia Ann Zahorsky.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.
