He was predeceased by: his parents, John F. Kanavy and Ruth Ann Monahan Kanavy; his family Irish; and his brother John F. "Jack" Kanavy Jr.. He is survived by: his son James F. II; his daughter-in-law Lisa Kanavy of Scranton; his daughter Stephanie; his son-in-law Brendan Zeigler of New Cumberland; his sisters-in-law, MaryAnn Bryson, Diane Kanavy and Madisonville; and his grandchildren, Holly Kanavy, Ryan Arnold, Jenna Sadowski and Caroline Sadowski.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 5th 2026 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Kanavy Home (818 Church St, Moscow, PA 18444). A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, October 6th 2026 at 10:00 AM at the St. Catherine of Siena Church (220 Church St, Moscow, PA 18444).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Francis of Assisi Soup Kitchen, 500 Penn Ave., Scranton, PA 18509.
