We announce the death of William D. Atherton of Mount Union, Pennsylvania, who passed away on August 27, 2026, at the age of 88. William will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. He was predeceased by: his parents, Harry Atherton and Evelyn Atherton (Reeder); and his siblings, John Atherton, Dennis Atherton, Judy Myers, Joy Ginithan and Sandra Gearhart.
He is survived by: his wife Anna L. Atherton (Snyder); his children, Cary Atherton, Donald Atherton, Melody Corbin (James) and Anita Sunderland (Timothy); his grandchildren, Michelle Knable (Eric), Stephanie Rummings (Fred), Carrie Brown (Bryant), Jolene Bowersox (Gene), Ashley Wagner (Adam), Courtney Sunderland, Devin Atherton, Benjamin Grove and Dylan Sunderland (Ellie); and his sisters, Lana Rhodes, Cindy Snyder (Larry), Janet Walker (Paul) and Diana Caldwell. He is also survived by many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
