He was predeceased by : his parents, Mortimer J. Briggs and Lucie Anna Ashley Briggs; his children, James W. Briggs, Robert F. Briggs and Carol Briggs; his sister Helen Boyce; and his granddaughter Layla Yvonne Rightmire.

He is survived by : his children, Thomas Briggs (Ruth), Don Briggs, Betty Jean Cobb (Michael) and Judy Ann Briggs; and his brother Ben Briggs (Hazel). He is also survived by Several grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
