He was predeceased by: his parents, William Matern and Joyce "Mickey" Matern (DeFiest); his brothers, William Matern, Daniel Matern and Frederick Matern; and his daughter Dara Muta.
He is survived by: his wife Denise Matern (Muta); his children, Dallas Matern (Ashlee) and Britany Matern of Newfoundland; his grandchildren, Anthony, Abriella, Violet and Dalton; and his siblings, Edward Matern, Susan Matern, Carol Wiseman, Jean Krull and Lorraine Matern.
