He was predeceased by: his parents, Jacqueline Bates and William Staiger. He is survived by: his wife Barbara Jean Gallina of Erie, PA; his children, Jeffrey and Michele; and his grandchildren, Darwin and Tycho.
Attending Case Western Reserve University, in Cleveland, Ohio, on a grant from the National Science Foundation, he earned a Masters degree in Organic Chemistry.
