He was predeceased by : his parents, Eber James and Pearl Hollenbaugh Holtry; his former life partner Barbara Wright Holtry; his son Theodore Holtry; and his sisters, Mary Weigle and Nellie Draper (Holtry).

He is survived by : his wife Hazel M. Norman Holtry; his children, John Holtry Jr. (Laurie), Mike Holtry, Beverly Holtry, Genevieve Rohrbaugh (Holtry) and Tina Wright; his stepdaughters, Sally Snyder and Susan Hollifield; and his siblings, Eber "Jim" Holtry, Paul Holtry, Charlie Holtry, Betsy Graham, Laurel Norman and Katie Wells. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.
