Bill Zanzinger wrote a sympathy message

“I met Dave in freshman year at Bishop Kenrick High School. My last name begins with "Z" so he always sat in front of me in class. Dave had an impish sense of humor and liked to draw cartoons. I remember his comical storybooks based on late night TV commercials for such things as coffee pots and steam cleaners. Dave never raised his voice or criticized anyone and was a true friend in the best sense of the word. I'll miss you, brother. -Bill Zanzinger”

“To the Vitelli family, my deepest condolences on the sudden loss of Dave. I have many fond memories of standing at the bus stop at Hamilton & Washington street waiting for our bus to take us to Holy Savior School. Dave was always the one trying to organize us to play a game or something to keep us occupied (especially Bobby and I since we were the youngest and the most likely to get into some sort of trouble..:)) while waiting for the bus.
