He was predeceased by : his parents, George Smail and Anna Babik Smail; his uncle Joseph C. Smail; his siblings, George Smail and Louise H. Hoadwonic; his niece Pamela Hoadwonic; and his nephew James Tomich.

He is survived by : his wife Mary Smail (Hirak) of Hecla; his son Thomas Joseph Smail (T. J.) of Hecla; and his siblings, Samuel Smail of Hecla and Anna Marie Tomich of Norvelt.

Donations in remembrance of Tom may be made to the Hecla Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 213 Southwest, PA 15685.
