He was predeceased by : his wife Patricia Nelson; his brother Joseph Walter Nelson; his niece Lynne Nelson Dooley; and his siblings-in-law, Lewis William Conover and Margaret Weir Conover.

He is survived by : his former life partner Diana Conover; his significant other Patricia Weir; his daughter Diana Nelson Priest (Judy); his son-in-law Michael Priest; and his granddaughter Rhiannon Priest. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
