He was predeceased by: his parents, Roy Wheland and Helen Wheland (Johnson); and his grandson Troy Wheland, Jr.. He is survived by: his wife Karen L. Wheland (Parson); his children, Brenda L. Harris (Timothy), Troy Wheland and Adam Wheland; his grandchildren, Robert Hopkins, Brent Hopkins, Sierra Brennaman and Matthew Wheland; and his brothers, Lynn Wheland and Larry Wheland. He is also survived by five great grandchildren.
