He was predeceased by : his parents, Margery Shnitzler (Friedman) and Meyer Shnitzler. He is survived by : his wife Jan Yager; his daughters, Julia Yager (Michael Aboff) and Diana DeCubellis (Brian DeCubellis); his grandchildren, Sophia and Atticus; and his sister Linda Shnitzler Young.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Rick's name to Citizens Diplomacy International of Philadelphia.
