He is survived by: his wife Mary Jane Grefenstette (Kelly); his children, Carl (Karen McCrea), John (Deb), Mary Jane Bowes (Jerry Morgan), Greg (Irene), Carol (David Bates), Jerry (Megan Marie), Jim (Tess), Edward (Megan Elizabeth), Jennifer Grefenstette Coblin (Harvey) and Lisa Kelly Goodall (Matt); and his sister Margie Bankert.
To honor his significant involvement at his alma mater, the Hillman Foundation funded the Carl G. Grefenstette Center for Ethics in Science, Technology, and Law at Duquesne University.
