He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Sobien and Helen Sobien; his sons, Dwight D. Sobien and Thomas TJ Layhue; his granddaughter Amanda Taormina; and his brother Andrew Sobien.
He is survived by: his wife Sandra; his children, Naomi Kerkan, James Sobien II, Lori Sobien and Trina Stone; and his grandchildren, Anthony, Elizabeth, Dessa, Kevin, Kara, Courtney, Fred Jr., Danielle, Kyle, Cammron, Dakota and Jamie of James, III..
