During her young working years, she met and later married Ben Carter in 1961, and chose to live her middle life as a homemaker and the primary caretaker of her two grateful children. She later worked outside the home too and was experienced in payroll and accounting. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed gardening, entertaining, piano, painting, sand casting, and many other hobbies.
